Western Bay of Plenty DC needed to augment their existing water management system with a new water treatment plant at Pongakawa. The water supply was a new bore with generally good properties, but had elevated iron and manganese content.
Filtration Technology was contracted to supply and install an Automatic Valveless Gravity filter (AVG) with sand filter media to bring the water into compliance with NZDWS 2005 and increase flow capacity to 200 m3/hr. Because AVG’s are a gravity filter without valves within a filter system, they provide an excellent solution to unmanned remote WTP’s. After attaining a pre-decided headloss, the AVG’s automatically implement a cleaning/backwashing cycle without operator intervention.
