Kapiti Coast District Council recently installed a Trojan UVSwift 24 inch medium pressure UV system at their Waikanae Water Treatment plant to increase their Protozoa log removal to 5.
The medium pressure Trojan UVSwift was selected due to its very low head loss, which enabled the gravity flow plant to provide greater water quality without additional pumping or storage costs.
The installation of the new system was undertaken by KCDC staff and went very smoothly considering the plant could only be shut down for durations no longer than 6 hours. Also, having a unit requiring only two high output lamps meant less points of failure. Filtec’s professional approach throughout the project guaranteed a successful outcome” said Dave Bassett Water & Wastewater Treatment Manager, KCDC.
KCDC plant capacity 23 ML/day, Treatment Process includes: Clarifier, Carbon feeder, 4 gravity dual media filters, Chlorine, lime dosing, Flouride, and now UV disinfection.
